On this very festive day, there were so many different types of buds and flowers. Classic choices such as roses, lilies, tulips, daisies, dahlias and carnations were stunning amid gorgeous greenery.

Here are some important takeaways from the eventful day:

When it comes to the color scheme, aligning the flowers with the bridal shower’s theme is key. For a harmonious palette, incorporate a mix of both bold and subtle shades or opt for a monochromatic scheme with varying tones of a single color.

Water to keep the flowers well hydrated and flower food to prolong their life are a must. Consider your venue and access to water or you will need to fill the buckets prior.

Depending on your party size it might be best to order your flowers from a wholesaler. If you opt for wholesale flowers there is a little more work. You will need to order a few days before prep them as advised and leave them in water in a cold dark space. Either way you or whoever you assign should prep your flowers the day before.

If buying from a florist or shop prepping the day before is all that is needed. You want to cut them all and place them in fresh clean water with flower food.

Place them into the buckets they will be displayed in. Make sure you clean these out beforehand and use fresh clean water. Remove all lower leaves or foliage that will touch the water. This will keep them staying fresh and nice for longer.

Don't forget tools for guests to cut and trim stems.

A fun idea is to mix and match different vases, preferably medium sized and bud vases.

There needs to be a designated area for setting up the flower bar. There should be a waterproof tablecloth for the workstation and lots of paper towels including a receptacle for used ones close by. For Carlie and Miles, this wedding at the perfectly chosen Tower Beach Club was always about magical posturing, beachfront vibes and making sure everyone got at least one sweet treat from a delightful cookie and cake pop spread. In many circles the wedding cake is revered. No matter the size, this cake was all about elegant simplicity and quiet softness emanating from the perfectly applied baby's breath all around. It was the perfect match between their intimate desires and modern trends emerging from years of evolutionary mainstays. Over time, cutting cakes have transcended the look and feel of some of the contemporary, modern and even traditional type wedding cakes for something which becomes more of their own personal statement, a statement being made just for them. The cutting cake and all its variations, for those who opt for it may be here to stay. We shall see. Only time will tell.

Our one-of-a-kind facility includes more than 60 diverse marine habitats and features a two-story Giant Kelp Tank where guests feel surrounded by the ocean world. The rental provides a unique opportunity for you and your guests to enjoy exhibits and panoramic views at your leisure. Birch Aquarium is the public outreach center for the renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego. You and your guests will dive deeper into the cutting-edge research being done to understand, protect, and preserve the planet.

BIRCH AQUARIUM WEDDING

At more than 30,000 square feet, Birch Aquarium can accommodate up to 1,500 guests with multiple indoor/outdoor setup configurations available. Guests will be able to explore ocean habitats, get hands-on with Scripps Oceanography science, and enjoy some of the best ocean views in San Diego. There are many options, one of which is certain to accommodate a wedding of almost any size. Take a look at some of the options below.

THE GALLERIA

The Shelia Marie Davis Galleria features multi-story windows and stunning ocean views. At 4,200 square feet, this unique indoor space accommodates 400 people for a stand-up reception, 200 for a sit-down dinner, 160 for buffet-style service, and 375 for a theater-style event.

TIDE POOL PLAZA

Featuring one of the most spectacular views at Birch Aquarium, Preuss Tide Pool Plaza is a 3,750-square-foot outdoor space with access to the aquarium’s tide pool exhibits. The split-level accessible space accommodates 500 people for a stand-up reception, 140 for a sit-down dinner and 175 for a wedding ceremony.

CAFÉ PAVILION

Located at the entrance of Birch Aquarium, this 10,000 square-foot open-air pavilion accommodates 1,000 people for a stand-up reception or 500 seated. It is a spacious area for a variety of events and features dramatic life-sized brass statues of breaching gray whales.

ENTRANCE COURTYARD

This 3,000-square-foot entirely open air space is a great area to extend your party from the indoor Galleria. It accommodates 300 for a reception and 170 for a sit-down dinner.

BLUE BEACH

Blue Beach is a flexible 6,000-square-foot plaza that features stunning ocean views as well as a 4,500-square-foot floor mural depicting a map of the underwater canyons off La Jolla Shores. Blue Beach accommodates 550 people for a stand-up reception or 300 seated, and is also available for semi private rentals during the aquarium’s operating hours.

Three tiered rounds styled in a gradient of seafoam hues, fading from minty creams at the top to aquarium blues below. Thin wisps of wafer paper kelp swirled between each layer, and set in a spiral cascade. Tiny gold coins, miniature starfish and shells nestled in tiny grooves. A 2 tiered aquarium provides a dramatic backdrop for a Birch Aquarium wedding and a ceremonial cake cutting.

The black wedding cake glowed magically under the soft lights of the venue's dining room. Perched on the top layer was Shaye and Casey's cake-topper announcement which basically summed it up: "The Bennetts." It was a one-of-a-kind wedding confection - a marvel of ebony frosting with cream colored flowers sculpted by the blade of a palette knife. This unique cake defied all conventional notions of what a wedding cake could be.Shaye had designed each element herself. Petals of green leaves provided soft overlapping curves, emanating an organic sense of growth and movement.

The black wedding cake was daring, unconventional - but it was them, Shaye and Casey. Shay's artistry combined with a little know-how brought the vision to life. Garlands of blush-pink roses and orange ranunculus provided an additional touch of pop to the evening's already established magic. The centerpieces mirrored the bride and groom's passion for simple pleasures and wilderness. Miniature versions of Allison's bouquet - creamy plumerias and yellow dendrobium orchids nestled amongst ferns and eucalyptus - topped each round table. Dots of candied citrus and marigold petals completed the rustic charm. It all came together in pleasing harmony, a flawless expression of the wedding's easy elegance and outdoor romance. On the bride and groom's cake table, was a "cutting cake," adorned uniquely just for them. The handcrafted palette knife flowers seemed to compliment the rustic yet subtle color palette- each delicate bloom totally edible.

What is a wedding cake if not for a palette pleasing confection that reflects the bride and groom's personalities, wants and likes. 3 tiers of Violet Cake Co.'s signature flavor, surrounded by black fondant and white sugar peonies to adorn the wedding cake and the dessert table accompanying it. Other coordinated decor was made from black wafer paper, tinted, dyed, designed and formulated to adhere to the fondant base. Burgundy centers for the sugar peonies provide an understated set off for the perfect final piece of the design. The front ceremony garden has a choice of facing the European style fountain or the old English oak tree. For ceremonies facing the tree, it is popular to hang floral balls or lanterns from the tree. A third choice is to face the front of the historic building of the La Jolla Woman's Club wedding with the ceremony taking place in front of the famous arched doors.
